MARCH–AUGUST 2026 · LOCAL HIGHLIGHTS

The six-month local file

The decisions, projects and deadlines most likely to matter locally. Older context appears only where it helps explain what is happening now.

Decision · Architect appointed 4 May 2026

Bassendean Oval redevelopment entered schematic design

Council appointed Christou Design Group in May to develop the community-endorsed concept to 60 per cent schematic design, updated costings and a Treasury business case, backed by a $500,000 State grant.

WHY IT MATTERS

This is a genuine design and funding-preparation milestone, but it is not yet construction approval or full project funding.

WHAT TO DO

Track the next community engagement, business case and funding commitments before treating the redevelopment as ready to build.

Watch · Council update 29 Apr 2026

BIC Reserve padel proposal moved into operator selection

Council established a committee to assess three expressions of interest for privately funded and operated padel courts beside existing tennis facilities.

WHY IT MATTERS

The preferred operator, lease terms, site design and community engagement will determine whether and how the proposal proceeds.

WHAT TO DO

Watch for the committee recommendation and Council decision; endorsement of a selection process is not final delivery approval.

Watch · Engagement opened 9 Jul 2026

A ten-year bike network plan is being prepared

The Town began engagement in July on future bike paths, shared paths and supporting infrastructure across Bassendean, Ashfield and Eden Hill.

WHY IT MATTERS

The adopted network and priorities will influence which active-transport links compete for future funding.

WHAT TO DO

Watch for the engagement report, adopted route priorities and funded works rather than assuming every suggested link will proceed.
